Our "Country Home"

I just finished reading the last issue of Country Home, and with sadness I close the magazine. I have to wonder if this is the end of just another magazine or perhaps the end of an era? Almost 10 years ago I opened my shop and "country" was a big part of my purchasing decisions. I wanted my store to have a feeling of classic, casual comfort - using antiques to decorate a cottage or cabin or home. What direction are we headed now? Antiques, collectibles and vintage seem an answer to me at a time when "green" is such a part of our lives and economy is everything. What do you think?

I love Country Home and will miss it. I still haven't received notification from them that my subscription will be discontinued if I will be given another magazine in place or a refund.

When I see the people flocking to Warrenton/Round Top with thousands and thousands of dollars to spend twice a year, I can't believe it's the end of an era. As a long time reader of Country Home, I have noticed a shift away from what made them such a great magazine years ago. It is sad to see them go, though.

I absolutely agree with you. I've bought antiques for so many years and yes I started out buying because we were on a budget to decorate. Now, with the business I still buy with a budget in mind. I can't wait to get me "last" issue; I've been anxiously waiting! It seems to me blogs will take the place of the great magazines that have departed!

I, too will miss my favorite magazines...and the replacements so far just don't measure up to motivate me in the world of "junk/cottage/vintage/etc,etc". I have filled the void with these wonderful blogsites.

As far as those old broken down chippy rusty need-some-love things out there and the decorating styles that go with...it will survive. Because that's what WE love.

It is unbelievable that a magazine like Country Home is ceasing publication. Why couldn't the publisher just have gotten a new editor when the advertising went down etc. Makes me wonder too what's going on. So much will be lost...

That is such a good magazine. I will miss all of the ideas I get from it. Hope they will publish another one as good as Country Home.

I don't think country decorating will go away. It's in my heart and I love others styles of decorating, but I still love my home and I don't want to change it. I just keep adding to it all the time. I love vintage collectibles and they just seem to fit right in with what I already have.
